A study earlier conducted at the University of Texas revealed drinking about three cups of coffee a day can boost up sex life of men.

The finding is interesting and researchers add further that a certain amount of caffeine consumed a day reduces the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED).

David S Lopez led the study. He is an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Centre at Houston (UTHealth).

He said the research also found a reduction in the prevalence of ED with even those men who were overweight, obese and hypertensive. However, this was not true with diabetes people.

He found that those men who consumed caffeine between 85mg to 170mg a day were less likely to report ED by 42 percent. Surprisingly, consuming a bit more didn’t benefit more. Those who consumed between 171mg to 303mg a day were 39 percent less likely to report ED.

Lopez compared his data with those men who consumed between zero to 7mg of caffeine a day.

The study concluded that caffeine triggers several pharmacological effects in our body that results with the relaxation of penile helicine arteries as well as the cavernous smooth muscle that lines cavernosal spaces. As a whole, the system finally increases the penile blood flow.

Lopez and his team experimented with coffee, tea, soda and sports drinks. All these drinks contain caffeine.

The above brief of the finding is collected from PLOS ONE journal.
