Trends on Tiktok are really innocent and funny in many parts. But, sometimes, they are a bit far. There was a “chroming trend” which took the life of a girl who was 13 years old in Australia. But what does the chroming trend mean, and why is it viral on the internet these days?

There are some drug fads among Gen Alpha and Gen Z which are gaining popularity, and parents are also worried about it, which might be a good reason for the tension.

There is a 13 years old girl whose name is Esra Haynes, who studied in 8 classes in Melbourne, Australia. She passed away at the age of 13 on 31 March 2023. She was part of a new and viral TikTok trend known as the “chroming trend” as she sniffed an aerosol deodorant.

After participating in the trend, she was offered cardiac arrest and brain damage, which is according to the Sun. Before she passed away from such issues, she was admitted to the hospital for a week.

Now, the parents of Haynes are advising and warning other users against the “chroming trend.” which is now popular on social media platforms.

Paul Haynes, speaking on the Australian TV show, ‘A Current Affair,’ said that Esra, the girl, might not have done what she did if she knew the severe results, even the possibility of losing her life in the trend.

Andrea Haynes also added that the impact of this situation is really heartbreaking, as now they do not have any children to bring back home.

The chroming trend challenge is a term used in Australia to describe something dangerous that some people do on social media. It has some harmful and dangerous fumes from things like cans, spray, paint containers, and deodorants.

On the TikTok platform, users are involved in something called the ‘chroming trend,’ and they share videos using the ‘WhipTik’ hashtag. This term refers to teh use of nitrous oxide. The videos with ‘WhipTok’ have been watched more than 547 times on TikTok.

According to the National Retail Association in Australia, the slang ‘chroming trend’ has come over time. It originally came from the act of sniffing paint which is based on chrome, to get high. These days, it includes inhaling fumes from different harmful substances like paint, aerosol cans, markers, hairspray, light fluid, cleaning products, paint, nail polish remover, solvents, deodorants, gasoline, and nitrous oxide.

What are the risks of the “chroming trend”?

Chroming trend is a trend on the internet where a person breathes and inhales some harmful substances to get a short-term, high like the same feeling one gets from alcohol.

However, doing this is very dangerous and can lead to some serious issues. It might cause seizures, heart attacks, coma, suffocation, injuries, or choking. Also it can also harm the organ of the body which are inside for a long time.

Using the drug for a long period of time can cause some serious health issues like memory and thinking. It may make it hard to make effective decision making, lead to loss of memory, hard to make concentrate, and also lowers the IQ level.

This is not the only risky trend that has been viral on TikTok for a long period of time.
