In 2023, Nintendo’s sales data shows that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become one of the top-selling games for the Switch. It sold more than 18 million copies in just two months, making it the ninth best-selling game ever. This huge success also helped Nintendo make a lot of money.

In 2023, Nintendo has been doing really well. They made 52% more money compared to last year. The main reason for this success is their Super Mario Bros movie, which became the biggest money-maker of 2023 so far, earning more than $1.3 billion dollars.

In addition to that, Zelda, which appeared in the gaming world for the first time in 1986, has shown once again how important it is for the game developer.

In May, they released a new game called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” which is part of the Zelda series. It’s been really popular and sold an amazing 18.51 million copies in total.

The game became a big hit right away, selling more than 10 million copies in just three days. It was a follow-up to the very successful game “Breath Of The Wild,” which has sold 30.65 million copies so far.

The games have a usual format of action and adventure with the famous character Link. They mostly concentrate on the big open-world part of the game.

How does the game Tears of the Kingdom compare to other Switch games?

The Japanese company has been making games for people of all ages in different types since the Switch came out in 2017. Even though some people worried about fewer console sales, Zelda showed that Nintendo games are still very popular.

After just two months, Tears of the Kingdom made it to the ninth place in the list of top-selling Switch games of all time. Its prequel, Breath of the Wild, has been in fourth place since it was released in 2017.

Just like the 2023 movie, Mario has become number one with its latest Mario Kart game. It sold more than both Zelda games together, with over 55 million copies sold.

Other than Zelda, Mario has also played a big role in making Nintendo successful in 2023. The Super Mario Bros. movie turned out to be a surprising global hit and helped Nintendo make more money.
