Popular tourist destinations including the magnificent Rococo abbey church at Ottobeuren, the Disney-like Schloss Neuschwanstein Castle, and winter sport resort Oberstdorf are also within easy driving distance.

To reach Memmingen Allgäu Airport by car, use exit 14 (Memmingen Ost) from the Autobahn A96. Clear signposting is available from the autobahn for the three-minute drive to the airport terminal. If driving from Memmingen train station in downtown, follow Augsburger Straße, which change to Schleifweg shortly before reaching Memmingen Airport.

There is no train station at Memmingen Airport itself but downtown Memmingen train station is an easy 5-km bus or taxi ride from the airport. Municipal bus 2 (operated by Angele) and bus 811 (operated by Brandner) connect the airport with Memmingen Central Bus Station (ZOB), which is directly next to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Services on Sundays are very limited. The bus ride takes around 12 minutes.

Memmingen is at the intersection of two mainline railway routes – Munich / Augsburg to Lindau (and on to Bregenz in Austria and Zurich in Switzerland) and Dortmund / Ulm to Kempten / Oberstdorf. Most travel from Memmingen is on the Nahverkehr – local trains, which are cheaper than long-distance trains and allow for the use of the discount Bayern Ticket.
