Shrek 5: Everything we know so far-tech preview

Here’s all the information we have about Shrek 5, the highly anticipated fifth movie in the DreamWorks series. This includes details about the Shrek 5 release date, trailer updates, cast, and plot.

The first Shrek movie came out in 2001 and made over $450 million at the box office. This lovable green ogre has become so popular that it led to several spin-offs and three more main movies made by DreamWorks Animation.

Shrek Forever After, the latest big movie in the family series, was released in 2010, and it was meant to be a farewell to the beloved character Shrek. However, fans have been speculating about a fifth movie in the Shrek series for a while now, hoping to see the lovable ogre back on the big screen.

Let’s explore all the information we have about Shrek 5, including updates on when it will be released, the cast, and other details:

What is Shrek 5 release date?

As of April 2023, the Shrek 5 release date has not been announced yet.

According to Eddie Murphy, the movie was supposed to be released in 2020, but there have been no updates on it. Recently, in an interview, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri said that they are working on a fifth movie with the original cast, but they haven’t confirmed when it will start production or be released.

Even though DreamWorks hasn’t announced the official Shrek 5 cast, the recent interview with Meledandri suggests that the original voice cast might return for Shrek 5.

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” he said.

Here’s how the Shrek 5 cast might look:

  • Shrek as Mike Meyers
  • Donkey as Eddie Murphy
  • Princess Fiona as Cameron Diaz
  • Puss in Boots as Antonio Banderas
“The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”

During a recent interview with ETalk, Eddie Murphy mentioned that he would eagerly agree to be a part of Shrek 5 without any hesitation.

“I’d absolutely be open if they ever came with another Shrek, I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey,” Murphy said.
“You know, they did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, ‘They should have did a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots.’ I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”

Meledandri said in the newest interview: “We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”

Does Shrek 5 have a plot yet?

As of now, there are no specific details about the plot for Shrek 5. However, some small hints and information have been shared over time.

In March 2017, Michael McCullers, the well-known writer for Shrek 5, mentioned that the movie would be a “big reinvention” of the series. He explained that with four movies already, the characters are beloved, but they need a fresh approach for the new movie.

Even though that was five years ago, Mike Meyers mentioned in May 2022 that he would be very happy if he could make one Shrek movie every year.

Without a doubt, Meyers is eager to play his role again, even if it’s in a slightly different Shrek world. But whatever is in store for the next Shrek movie, it may take a while before any details are disclosed.

Is there a Shrek 5 trailer?

As of now, there is no trailer, footage, or images available for Shrek 5.
