Elden Ring DLC: Shadow Of The Erdtree And Everything You Should Know

Elden Ring DLC, a popular game, has received some updates that have made a big impact on player-versus-player gameplay. However, players are waiting for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which is scheduled to release later this year. Let me share all the information we have about this upcoming DLC for Elden Ring.

After the initial success and hype of Elden Ring, players were eager for some other content in the form of paid DLC. There were rumours from the start that got us excited, as we hoped that FromSoft would fellow their tradition of releasing large expansions as they did for the other Soulsborne games.

With the release of the free Colosseum update, Elden Ring entered a new phase, leaving fans curious about the upcoming DLC. FromSoftware has now announced a complete expansion for the game, which suggests a different approach compared to their previous titles. It is important to note that their approach to downloadable content can evolve and change over time.

When thinking about Elden Ring, we should also consider the different endings that fame offers. Will the DLC introduce new endings to find, or even exist separately from existing endings, similar to some previous expansions in teh Souls series?

Let’s go over all the information we have about the Elden Ring DLC. This includes rumours, leaks, the track record of FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, as well as any official announcements that have been made so far.

Please be aware that as we discuss content that takes place late in the game or after completing Elden Ring, there may be spoilers for those who have not finished the game yet.

What is the Elden Ring DLC release date?

Apart from smaller updates, the first big expansion DLC for Elden Ring, called Shadow of the Erdtree, is in development. However, FromSoftware has not provided a specific window or release date for it yet.

The news about Shadow of the Erdtree Elden Ring DLC was initially revealed on February 28, 2023, through a tweet announcing its development. The DLC started its development shortly after the release of the main game, leading some sources to mistake it for a completely separate project.

The ELden Ring DLC is expected to come out after From Software’s next Armored Core fame, which is scheduled for August 25, 2023. Based on this, we can estimate that the Elden Ring DLC will likely release either in late 2023 or sometimes in 2024.

As for the details of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there has not been much information announced yet, apart from a captivating promotional image that accompanied the announcement. However, once we gather more information, we will update this article as fast as you can.

Elden Ring DLC update of Colosseum

On December 7, 2022, Elden Ring players were treated to the free Colosseum Update.

This update introduced the Colosseum, a multiplayer-focused DLC that allows players to engage in one-on-one duels or join a team of three Tarnished to battle against another team of three players.

Elden Ring DLC leaks and rumours

An Elden Ring DLC leak named Sekirodubi found huddle clues in one of the patches of Elden Ring, hinting at possible upcoming content.

The patch includes references to new hairstyles and items, as well as indications of around 30 new bosses. Also the dedicated data miner also uncovered up to 16 new characters referred to as “Someone Yet Unseen,” which could be either NPCs or enemy characters.

Elden Dreams

According to Eurogamer’s report, data miner Lance McDonald uncovered cut content in Elden Ring that involved exploring the dreams of specific NPCs. Though this content was not included in the base game, it might be saved for future DLC.

In the cut content, an NPC named Monk Jiko requests teh Tarnished to recover an item called Dream Mist by invading the dreams of the NPC. This concept opens up exciting creative possibilities, and allows players to battle against literal nightmares in addition to the other terrifying creatures found in the Lands Between.

Extended endings

In Bandai Namco’s previous games developed by FromSoftware, like DS 2, and 3, Dark Souls, and the DLC introduced endings that expanded upon the conclusion of the main game. However, these DLC endings did not contradict or alter any of the endings already achieved by the players.

For example, in Dark Souls 2, the Three Crowns DLC provided an extra quest that became available after completing all three DLC packs. This quest unlocked a new ending, giving players a third option in addition to the choices of rejecting or linking the fire.

Those who finished both DLC packs in Dark Souls 3 received an additional ending, which co-existed with any other ending they had already achieved in the main game.

The endings provided the characters with an option to escape the decaying world by entering a painted world. It will be fascinating to see how the Elden Ring DLC affects the different endings in the game or the world we get to find.

Elden Ring DLC bosses

In Elden Ring, there is a powerful demigod named Miquella the Unalloyed who manages to avoid your attempts to defeat all the Sharbearers, even when the credits roll, Miquella remains peacefully dormant inside their eggs.

Miquella, who is Malenia’s twin brother, is known as the most powerful demigod in Elden Ring. Despite this, we never have the opportunity to fight him. One reason for this is that we can acquire his shard of the Elden Ring by defeating his half-brother and captor, Mohg the Lord of Blood, making it unnecessary to confront Miquella directly. Even Gideon Ofnir advises us to let Miquella remain undisturbed. However, was this decision short-sighted?

FromSoftware is intentional with its choices when it comes to bosses in the Souls series, so we suspect that Miquella’s absence is deliberate. We should keep in mind that he is currently in a slumber within his egg, waiting to gain enough power to heal his family, particularly his sister who is afflicted with scarlet rot.

When Miquella eventually awakens and discovers that a new Elden Lord has emerged and killed his entire family, including Malenia, he is likely to be extremely angry. This sets him up perfectly to become the main antagonist in any Elden Ring DLC. As he continues to grow in power, he will hold a grudge against the Tarnished once he learns about the events that have unfolded.

Shadow of the Erd TreeX

Elden Ring was awarded Game of the Year at the GOTY Awards. During the acceptance speech, Miyazaki mentioned that they have different plans for Elden Ring.

This suggests that there will likely be some other DLC coming following the Colosseum update. It is expected to be a larger expansion with a focus on storytelling, similar to the expansion in the Dark Souls Series.

We have learned that the upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdrtree, will either continue the storyline of the game or introduce an important new questline.

According to data miner Lance McDonald, Shadow of the Erdtree will be an expansion, almost equal to two separate DLC packs. This size is comparable to the sole DLC of Bloodborne, The Old Hunters, which has an important impact on the game by introducing a new area, story content, and bosses, essentially transforming the complete experience.

According to Lance McDonald, a planned Season Pass for Elden Ring, which would have included multiple smaller DLC packs, was left in favor of focusing on Shadow of the Erd Tree.

If Lance’s information is accurate, it suggests that Shadow of the Erd Tree might be the only DLC for Elden Ring, excluding the Colosseum update. The extended development time further supports this possibility.
