Fort Myers Florida tourist attractions include beaches. The beaches are the central hub of activities for vacationers. Some activities include water sports such as canoing, kayaking or fishing; however, vacationers can enjoy shelling, bird watching or soaking up the sun. The most popular vacation attractions are the beaches. Many white, sugar sand beaches are located on Sanibel Island, Captiva Island and Estero Island.

Sanibel Island

On the Gulf coast, offshore of Fort Myers, Florida, sits Sanibel Island. Sanibel is accessible from Fort Myers via the Sanibel Causeway. Sanibel is a popular Florida tourist destination due to white, sand beaches, temperate weather and shelling. Sanibel Island is home to the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, which promotes education and research seashells and mollusks.

Sanibel Island is perfect for fishing for tarpon, red fish and sea trout. Like Captiva Island, Sanibel Island visitors enjoy shelling and beachcombing. Shelling is one of those activities that the entire family can partake. Finding shells and trying to identify them is not only a fun activity, it is a learning experience for children and adults.

Captiva Island

Captiva Island is located in the Gulf of Mexico, just north of Sanibel Island. Captiva has five miles of white, sand beach and world class sunsets. Shelling is a favorite activity because Captiva has an abundance of many types of seashells. The most popular beach for shelling is Turner Beach.

Activities to enjoy on Captiva Island include, but are not limited to shelling, bird watching, kayaking, boating, sailing, water skiing, fishing, golf and tennis. Of course, there is always soaking up the sun and relaxing, too.

Estero Island

Estero Island and San Carlos Island make up the Fort Myers Beach community, which is just south of Fort Myers, Florida. With over 30 beach access points along Estero Island, the main tourist attraction is the beach. Strolling on the beach, soaking up the sun and wading in the surf are just a few of the leisure activities.

Charter fishing expeditions, airboat tours and boat cruises are favorite tourist attractions. Vacationers that are more adventurous can choose among other activities, such as parasailing, canoeing or kayaking. Renting a jet ski or wave runner are popular pastimes, as well.

One of Fort Myers Florida tourist attractions is the beach. Along with the beach, vacation attractions include water sports, fishing and shelling. Sanibel Island, Captiva Island and Estero Island offer a long list of activities for vacationers that want to escape to a sub tropical paradise.
